John Galianos

Mr. John Galianos joined the Sûreté du Québec in 1968. He began his career as a patrol officer and then worked as an investigator in the Criminal Investigation Bureau in Hull. Subsequently, Mr. Galianos served as a team leader in the Crimes Against the Person Unit (Homicide and Armed Robbery) and as Deputy Commander of the Emergency Response Team (ERT) at the Grand Headquarters in Montreal.

In 1976, Mr. Galianos was selected by a special committee of the Sûreté du Québec to attend polygraph training at the Keeler Polygraph Institute in Chicago. He returned with a diploma and became the first polygraphist of the SQ, thus making history. At the same time, the Polygraph Division was initiated as it exists today.

Galianos Polygraphe Expert Inc

In 1990, Mr. Galianos founded the company GALIANOS POLYGRAPHIC EXPERT INC. Since then, the company has been providing computerized polygraphy services to government agencies, police forces, public and private security, the legal community, businesses and citizens.

Since joining the Sûreté du Québec as a polygraphist in 1976, and to this day in the private sector, Mr. Galianos has conducted over 6,000 polygraph examinations in Canada, the United States and Europe.

Education Committee

Mr. Galianos has served as the Chairperson of the Canadian Association of Police Polygraphists Education and Training Committee since 2008.

Polygraph School Inspector

In 2001, Mr. Galianos was appointed Polygraph School Inspector by the American Polygraph Association, Educational Accreditation Committee. To date, Mr. Galianos has conducted polygraph school inspections in Canada, across the United States, in London (England), Seoul (South Korea), Tel Aviv (Israel) and Singapore.

Mr. Galianos is recognized by the courts as an expert witness. He has testified before :

  • The Quebec Labour Tribunal

Publications

Mr. Galianos is the author of several articles on polygraphy as well as on interviewing and interrogation. His writings have been published over the years in security and law enforcement publications.

He is also Associate Editor of the prestigious international magazine POLYGRAPH published by the American Polygraph Association since 2008.

Mr. Galianos regularly attends seminars and advanced training programs given by the Canadian Association of Police Polygraphists and the American Polygraph Association in order to keep abreast of developments in the field of polygraphy.

Honorary member

Mr. Galianos was named an Honorary Member by the Canadian Association of Police Polygraphists (CAPP) at the 2015 Annual Seminar, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the advancement of the field of polygraphy. At this event, members were able to highlight his dedication as a leader in organizing the annual seminars, volunteering for training in different regions of the country, and mentoring on various issues affecting the field of polygraphy, including court testimony.

Medal of the National Assembly of Quebec

On Thursday, September 29, 2016, the MNAs for Marguerite-Bourgeoys and Chomedey congratulate and recognize Mr. John Galianos for his 40-year contribution to the police community and the community by honoring him with the Medal of the National Assembly of Quebec, underlining his entire career, his involvement as a Laval citizen and the pride, as a Quebecer, of his international influence.
